On August 5, Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee held a conference to review the prevention of drought and saltwater intrusion in the dry season 2019-2020; assess the results of cooperating on consumption, export processing of rice and seafood between enterprises, cooperatives (cooperatives) and farmers in the area.
Talking about the development of ST24 and ST25 rice varieties in Bac Lieu province, Mr. Ho Quang Cua, said: "Our research orientation on fragrant rice has changed in accordance with the problem of saline intrusion. Currently, ST24 and ST25 rice are very suitable for the prevention of saline intrusion, these varieties have a growth time of less than 100 days. Besides, these are the leading rice varieties for salt tolerance.
Currently, Bac Lieu province, the provinces of the rice-shrimp area, Phuoc Long district, Hong Dan district and Gia Rai town, have been invested with 3,500 ha by the province.
According to Mr. Cua, the demand for fragrant rice is very high, so ST24, ST25 rice is easy to consume, creating a motivation for businesses to make efforts to participate in investment in association with producers. Ease of consumption also stimulates the link between businesses and farmers. This is a good trend, consistent with the development policy of the state.

"In the market, since ST25 won the world's best rice award, the trend of using branded rice in Vietnam has increased dramatically. High quality rice production is also a trend. With this 30,000 ha area, business information and sufficient capital to farmers, we believe that the rice-shrimp area of ​​Bac Lieu has 1/3 of the area (10,000ha) that can grow high-value aromatic rice. ", Mr. Cua said.
Mr. Cua also said that in fact, the trend and desire of farmers and businesses in Bac Lieu to produce high quality rice is very large. Currently, with 3,500 ha being supported by the province to produce fragrant rice, only 2 businesses need to participate in the linkage to consume well.
"We need to build an ST fragrant rice production zone in the rice-shrimp region of the entire Ca Mau peninsula. This will be a famous region on the world rice production map. The basis of this is in the ability to export. Safe rice export to the US and Europe markets is very easy. We propose to produce fragrant rice in this rice-shrimp area in a safe direction and here we try to limit chemicals " Mr. Cua commented.

At the conference, many delegates also said that the direction of safe rice production to brand rice for Bac Lieu province and Vietnam in general is very necessary and consistent with the general trend.
At the conference, Mr. Luu Hoang Ly, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu province, said: "Currently, the spirit of businesses investing in aromatic rice production in Bac Lieu is very good. In the future we will pay off. develop more and orient about 60,000 hectares in the total rice growing area ".
